Listed Cottage Extension in Thorverton, Exeter

Cherry Tree Cottage has been significantly altered and modernised internally, although its plan form still clearly shows its origins as a 17th-century house. Its significance as a listed building is in part due to the grouping it forms with the adjacent Berribridge House.  The listing text for this property and anecdotal evidence suggests that the two properties may once have been part of a single row of thatched cottages.

The new extension has been designed as a high-quality, contemporary addition in contrast to the existing building.  The main body of the extension is to be clad in white render to match that of the existing house’s colour-washed rendered cob. The extension at the rear of the house is designed in contrast to the existing architecture so that it is viewed as a clear contemporary addition to the property and enables the house to be updated to modern living, with a better connection to the rear garden, more light and views.
