Conversion and retrofit of historic telephone exchange building in Tavistock, Devon to create 9 new Later Living Homes for developer J&M.
This sensitive conversion of the old BT telephone exchange on Plymouth Road in Tavistock, created 6 Later Living apartments, 2 new townhouse units and a stunning Penthouse for developers J&M Homes.
The project included extending to form 2 new wings and updating the original concrete framed structure, retrofitting with insulation and a new steel roof structure. Living Space Architects provided Architects services from initial concept design, through planning and also provided a client advisory role during the construction process.
Challenges during construction included cutting through reinforced concrete walls and creating a new more open roof structure whilst retaining the existing roof level.
The scheme provides much needed homes in the centre of Tavistock re-using and retrofitting a existing historic building within the Conservation Area.
Living Space Architects specialise in upgrading and retrofitting existing buildings for residential use as well as new-build residential homes in Devon & the Southwest.
