Contemporary Coastal Extensions in Lyme Regis, Dorset
In summer 2022, our clients approached us to reimagine their holiday home in Lyme Regis, Dorset. Their vision: a bold, contemporary retreat for extended family gatherings, blending modern design with the natural beauty of the Jurassic Coast.
We designed a series of thoughtful extensions and renovations to transform the property. A new garden room was nestled into the hillside, with glazed doors opening onto the garden and a green roof visible from the master bedroom, seamlessly integrating the architecture with surrounding trees and landscape. A second extension replaced the original conservatory with a glazed snug, perfectly positioned to frame panoramic views over Lyme Regis and The Cobb.
Inside, we opened up the layout to create generous family entertaining spaces, upgraded bathrooms, and furnished bedrooms to a high standard in collaboration with a skilled main contractor and bespoke joiner.
Sustainability was central to the brief. We specified high levels of insulation, installed new windows, and upgraded the heating system with an air source heat pump. A photovoltaic array with battery storage was added to future-proof the home and reduce its environmental impact.
Planning approval from Dorset Council was smooth, and with the contractor ready to begin, construction progressed swiftly, allowing our clients to enjoy their revitalised coastal home in time for the holidays.
