The conversion of Danby Lodge Hotel in Torquay into a residential care home involved dealing with very specific criteria for the design of spaces.
This project entailed the extensive refurbishment and extension of the existing building, including updating it to the current fire regulations and space standards as a specialist care home, as well as being fully compliant with Part M regulations. The client was also interested in maintaining the style of the existing building. As part of the the design brief, we worked to create an environment that felt less clinical and had a high specification of finish, as the finished residence was to encourage maximum independence for the residents.
As can be seen from the images below, the finished design is highly specified according to the requirements of the client, featuring generous common areas and 14 independent bedrooms, whilst retaining the prevailing image and style of the original main house and bungalow buildings in order to give a coherent overall finish.
